I'm finally getting around to publishing some videos of how I complete my Sprinter Camper Van project last year. Some great ideas. The blankets are probably the best but I would have at least a 2000wh batteryfor those. Here in the midwest, if we had your weather we wouldn't bother with any heat. From December into late February, single digits to sub zero are routine here. Those heating options would not work unless in the most confined spaces. You would find the small 6,000W Mr. Heater would be absolutely needed when into the single digits or lower, otherwise you would be near dangerous levels of exposure, like hypothermia if exposed more than 24 hours. The problem with the 6,000W heater is that it is too much for a very confined space even when at extreme lowes of 10 to -10. It is hard to find a solution than has the temperature adjustment and is safe to operate 24x7. I like that you have the carbon monoxide detector. I use two in case one fails. Everything man made eventually fails! Again some good ideas and options.

    Nice review Scott and you have discovered what most of us have discovered already and that is that it does work and it works well but I opted for the cheaper one so I have to heat my own water but it is way faster! I stand on a piece of artificial turf that can be cut to size and folds up relatively small. It drains away fast and dries quickly you might give that a try. I double it up so that the mud doesn't squish up as you stand on it. Nice job!

    How does the van do on forest roads with the low clearance? Any lift on the van being considered? Does it feel underpowered going up mountains?

    • @ScottPDX
      @ScottPDX Месяц назад

      Depends on the forest road. Gravel roads are fine, dirt with ruts and big lumps, not as good. Did not consider a lift for that vehicle based on it's design. Power was fine for general running around and over normal US mountain passes.

    So, so many times van builds get overly complicated through over-thinking. The van-heater realization you had is a classic example. I use a heating pad (like for a tummy ache) that I plug in and keep under the blankets all night. Works great. Nice video!

    • @ScottPDX
      @ScottPDX 5 месяцев назад

      It's not a swivel seat, it is permanently mounted backwards. That is only a solution if you never haul passengers, and need to keep it folded down when moving due to the airbag. One hole on the bottom of the seat bracket needs to elongated slightly, but other than that, pretty simple.

    Propane = flame = oxygen use = RED FLAG in a HOUSE let alone a space like a small van. Electric unit (set on SUPER LOW heat) powered from a long cord or secondary battery prolly better all around. (Shop around; they're out there) Sleeping bag liners are a cheap and easily stored alternative. The 12V blanket sounds like another, but I don't know about the battery drain... Milwaukee Brand tools offers a (self contained) battery powered jacket. Many motorcycle accessory suppliers offer the same (Gerbings is one of the best there. Sorta pricy; Worth it!) Spent lots of time in a tent freezing various things off. Now in a Chevy Uplander SUV converted to a sleeper. Keeping warm has never been a problem. Keeping cool is literally another story. My $.02

It would be cool if you could use a fire outside a van to heat a big vessel of water that could be brought into the van.
